||Joint Workshop on Designing Living anchored on Ancestral Wisdom was heldin
Asuke, Aichi Prefecture. Six Master students from Aalto Univ., Finland
and seven students of our uni learned a lot from local people about the
inherited ancestors wisdom and worked together for designing livving proposals.
| DENSO CSR program (DYEA): Learning from our ancestral wisdom for sustainable
environment held in Asuke , Toyoda city, Japan Our unit help its implementation
under Univ.-Industry, and Univ.-Region Cooperation framework. 21 Asian
students participated in the program. Prof. Suzuki acted as course director

||A local newspaper article introduces the Workshop was organized by Y. Nakaoka,
a master student of our Unit, from 14-16 December for creating art by the
fragments collected from Ryumonnji Pottery dump yard. The article and photos are introduced.
||Following the field work of June 2012, the report entitled “New Discovery
of Traditional Batik Culture in Indonesia” was completed. Japanese students
in the master course and senior students of our unit participated supported
by Professors and students of Bandung Institute of Technology. Please see the detail.
||Currently, a regional development plan in
Kakeyu Hot Spring is being elaborated in cooperation between Nagano Univ. and
Takushoku University. A team of foreign students of our Unit consisting of three
master students and three under probation to the master course from April 2013 carried
out the research on Nagano Kakeyu hot spring development-14-17 Nov. 2012. See the photos

||Two doctor students passed the final review and obtained PhD degree. The photos are shown here.
||Our unit’s outing took place in Sahara, Chiba, Itako, and Kajima, Ibaraji
Prefecture on 20 and 21 September. We all suppressed by the differences
in the results of substantiation of riverside culture between Sakura and
Itako as well as solemnity of Kashima shrine. The photos are shown here.
||The team of foreign mater students completed the report on Satsuma ceramic
products with a great help of people engaged in Satsuma production and
promotion as well as of Prof. Kubo, Design Morphology Unit. See the report
||The new academic year of 2012 started with the following new members: Dr.
Zhong, assistant professor from China for 6 months, Ms. Tachihara, Research
Assistant, Ms.Chan Shu-Ting exchange master studnet from Taiwan, Mr. Kato,
Mr. Tsuchiya, and Ms. Sasajima of undergraduate studnets.
||The last seminar of our unit took place on 14 Feb. covering (1) detailed report on “Roles of Temples in Rural Community Building”, (2) Finalization of unit’s pamphlet, and (3) Mapping of unit’s members to be uploaded to our web site.
||A Symposium of Asian Design Culture Society was held in 10-13 Feb in Chiba
Univ. and The Open Univ. Many distinguished professors from China, Korea,
Indonesia, and Taiwan gathered. The opening ceremony took place at Chiba
Univ. for which our unit assisted in hosting. Some photos are shown here.
||Graduation work presentation for undergraduate students, thesis and desecration
review for masteral and doctoral students took place respectively on 7th
and 2nd of Feb. and 27th Jan. The details and photos are shown here.
|| The final reort on "The role of temples for community building
in Sanbu Chiba Prefectur" was completed by the senior students of
our unit. It can be seen here (only Japanese version available)
||Five foreign master students carried out the research on Satsuma ceramic
products from 22 till 29 October in Kagoshima city. The research covers
the history and development as well as forms of Kuro- and –Shiro Satsuma
The research was assisted by Professor Kubo, Design Morphology Unit. See the details
||Our unit invited Mr. Y.Sato who lived in Africa over 50 years and made
great success in the macadamia nuts production and export from Kenya to
all over the world. He moved to Ruanda at his age of 68. He is currently
promoting organically processed products which are used for hygienic condition
improvement purposes. He introduced his philosophy on BOP business under
a new concept of “another development.” Nearly 100 participants gathered
and exchanged views with him after his presentation. See more.
||Three foreign students newly joined out unit from the beginning of the
second semester of 2011 academic year. In addition, one student who graduated
from Tokyo Metropolitan Univ. became an auditor of our unit upon the granted
admission to the Master course of Chiba Univ. from April 2012. One exchange
doctoral student from Taiwan joined as of October 2011 for one year.
||A study tour of our unit was organized from 20 till 22 Sept. to see the
water resource recycling in Azumino, Shirakwa-village, Seki-Japanese sward
production and, NBK’s Sushi Bar production and Sales system in Seki, Gifu
prefecture. See more.
||The design survey course of 2011 for the junior students of Design Science
Department implemented the intensive field work session from 2 August till
7 August in Isumi city, Chiba prefecture. The final presentation took place
on 7 August at the cultural center of Isumi. The participants from the
Isumi district who were engaged in preparation of design proposals made
valuable comments to the students. See more.
||From 17-20 July, six senior students of our unit carried out the field
survey on the role of temples for community building in Sanbu Chiba Prefecture. It investigated specifically the possible utilization of unused temples
and temples without resident priests. See more
||The new academic year started and our unit’s weekly lecture and discussion
sessions started from 12 April. Six senior students, six master students,
two doctoral students as well as three foreign students on probation newly
joined and all eager to learn something new day by day.
|| The graduation ceremony for undergraduate and graduate students took place
on 23 and 25 March respectively. Expressing our condolence to the victims
of the Tohoku-Kantou earthquake, the ceremonies were completed with unforgetable
memories. Five undergraduate and 5 master course and 3 doctor students
participated from our Unit.See the photos

||Prof. Ueda and Suzuki presented jointly a paper entitled "Traditional
Crafts as a Mean of Introducing Regional Cultures and Assuring Sustainable
Environment in Muskat, Oman"(Powerpoint)
|| Ueda-sennsei was promoted to Professor as of 1 Januaryu 2011
|| Prof. Suzuki presented his paper at the International Coference on Islamic Traditional Crafts Preservation. His paper and the presentation is shown here.
|| Open lecture for 2010 by Faculty of Engineering was offered on 11
Nov. Design Science was resposible for its organization. It covered the
subject of "Meaning of playing with rice straw and bamboo" See more about it.

was completed and sent to the Governor. See the report.
